More Than Bread Devotional for 5/9/12

Whoever corrects a scoffer gets himself abuse,
and he who reproves a wicked man incurs injury.
8 Do not reprove a scoffer, or he will hate you;
reprove a wise man, and he will love you.
Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be still wiser;
teach a righteous man, and he will increase in learning.  – Proverbs 9:7-9

You may already know this; but it is difficult, nigh unto impossible to teach someone who doesn’t want to learn.  This applies to our walk with God as well.  We should not be surprised that God gives up ample opportunity to learn about Him, and yet He doesn’t force us to get up and read His Word.  He doesn’t hound us to hide it in our hearts.  He invites us to learn His ways and memorize His wisdom.  The way we react to that invitation shows who we are, whether it be the scoffer or the wise man.
