12 Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery trial when it comes upon you to test you, as though something strange were happening to you. 13 But rejoice insofar as you share Christ’s sufferings, that you may also rejoice and be glad when his glory is revealed. – 1 Peter 4:12-13
Peter was there the night Jesus proclaimed to His disciples, “In this world you will have trouble.” Apparently, He took the lesson to heart. If you read the book of 1 Peter, you will see that Peter talks about suffering and trials quite a bit. Next to several passages about submission to authority and one another, it is a near constant theme. We don’t have to like it when life gets difficult, although we are still commanded to rejoice in the Lord always. We don’t have to wonder why it is happening to us, because we should expect that these times will come in due course. And we don’t have to wonder where God is in our times of trial, because He is right there with us. He will never leave us or forsake us and that goes double for when the going gets tough.
