Psalm 51:16-17
16 You do not delight in sacrifice, or I would bring it;
you do not take pleasure in burnt offerings.
17 The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit;
a broken and contrite heart,
O God, you will not despise.
There is a great temptation in all of us to do whatever we can that might be pleasing to others. We like to get those words of affirmation from others for a job well done. Sometimes, we can be tempted to take this attitude in our relationship with God. But over and over again in Scripture, we see that what pleases God isn’t the things we do, but the who that we are. Living for God isn’t about doing, it is about being. We can and will do things for God, but we can’t do them for His glory until we are willing to be broken before
Him.
