20 O Timothy, guard the deposit entrusted to you. Avoid the irreverent babble and contradictions of what is falsely called “knowledge,” 21 for by professing it some have swerved from the faith. Grace be with you. – 1 Timothy 6:20-21
There is a real danger in the Christian life that we might become students who learn and gain knowledge, which is good; but that we can fail to put it into practice, which is bad. Which should be increasing in knowledge in the Scriptures and in our faith, but that pursuit needs to be lived out in practical terms as well. Pursuing knowledge, simply for the sake of knowing will inexorably lead to “swerving from the faith” because faith requires action (James 2:17). Don’t get caught in arguments, get caught up in living out the truth you know.
