More Than Bread Devotional for 2/10/12

5 It is well with the man who deals generously and lends;
who conducts his affairs with justice.
6 For the righteous will never be moved;
he will be remembered forever.
7 He is not afraid of bad news;
his heart is firm, trusting in the LORD.
8 His heart is steady; he will not be afraid,
until he looks in triumph on his adversaries.  – Psalm 112:5-8

This psalm and others refer to the unmovable quality of the righteous.  If we didn’t know better it would almost sound like a kind of stubbornness: I won’t budge and you can’t make me.  But we know better.  This isn’t an expression of a stubborn heart, rather it is a confident heart; and that confidence is in the Lord, who is faithful.  I have had several friends who have received bad news just in the last week.  My prayer for them and for you and for me in these times is that we recall the goodness of God and His faithfulness to us.  Let Him steady you in these times.  The Lord is our Rock and an anchor for our soul, to keep us from being tossed about by every thing that would otherwise throw us.  Do not be afraid; He is with you.
