22 The stone that the builders rejected
has become the cornerstone.
23 This is the LORD’s doing;
it is marvelous in our eyes.
24 This is the day that the LORD has made;
let us rejoice and be glad in it. – Psalm 118:22-24
The early disciples all referenced back to this passage about the cornerstone as a prophecy of Jesus. It is quoted many times in the New Testament. For us it can also serve as a reminder that God is able to use those things that others have discarded as useless; and not just use them, but make them the indispensable piece of the plan. I think it is interesting that the next verse is the one we sing so many times, “This is the day that the Lord has made…” We should remember to rejoice and be glad in it always, because even a day that seems worthy to be “cast aside” may prove to be the day that is the most important of all. May God bless this day and make it an important day.
