More Than Bread Devotional for 1/31/12

13 Better was a poor and wise youth than an old and foolish king who no longer knew how to take advice.  – Ecclesiastes 4:13

I had an English teacher when I was younger that always cautioned against using short verses out of the Bible to prove a point.  It is wise advice and not to be taken lightly.  Solomon’s observation here is equally wise.  It is better to be one who can take good advice when it is offered than one who is too prideful, foolish even, to believe that another may have some words of wisdom.  The person who believes he knows everything already may be the most foolish person of all.
