More Than Bread Devotional for 1/11/12

14 The word of the LORD came to me: 15“Son of man, the people of Jerusalem have said of your fellow exiles and all the other Israelites, ‘They are far away from the LORD; this land was given to us as our possession.’

16 “Therefore say: ‘This is what the Sovereign LORD says: Although I sent them far away among the nations and scattered them among the countries, yet for a little while I have been a sanctuary for them in the countries where they have gone.’

17 “Therefore say: ‘This is what the Sovereign LORD says: I will gather you from the nations and bring you back from the countries where you have been scattered, and I will give you back the land of Israel again.’”   – Ezekiel 11:14-17

God never forgets a promise and He never breaks a promise.  The people of Israel had come to question God’s faithfulness, and yet, their predicament was itself the result of promises that God had made.  God warned the people of the consequences of disobedience and tried to discourage the people from taking that path.  When they did it anyway, God was true to His Word.  Still, there was His promise of forgiveness for all who would repent and turn back to Him.  It is still the same today.  God stands ready to forgive those who call to Him and turn to Him, but those who refuse and demand to have things their own way will get exactly that.  Eternal separation from God is delivered according to promise, just as much as eternal life is to those who believe.  Choose life.
