1 Return, O Israel, to the LORD your God,
for you have stumbled because of your iniquity.
2 Take with you words
and return to the LORD;
say to him,
“Take away all iniquity;
accept what is good,
and we will pay with bulls
the vows of our lips. – Hosea 14:1-2
The sacrifices of the Temple and the Tabernacle were never about getting forgiveness for sins. There is no sacrifice we can bring that will cause God to forgive sin in our lives. The sacrifices that were brought were brought as an act of worship to draw near to God. But even those sacrifices could not be brought until there was repentance. Christ has given the ultimate sacrifice with His death on the cross. It is the only sacrifice that could ever and will ever avail for the forgiveness of sins, and yet it still requires that we repent before we can avail ourselves of its benefits. We cannot go our own way and expect forgiveness, we must go to the Way.
