4 Delight yourself in the LORD,
and he will give you the desires of your heart.
5 Commit your way to the LORD;
trust in him, and he will act.
6 He will bring forth your righteousness as the light,
and your justice as the noonday. – Psalm 37:4-6
Some people misunderstand verse four and treat it as though God is promising to give us whatever our heart desires. He is making that promise, but it has a condition attached to it. We get the desires of our heart when we desire the Lord. It is similar to what Jesus said, “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.” God rewards those who seek Him with a prize that is far above anything else this world can offer: Himself. As many take the opportunity to “start fresh” with a new year, I encourage you to pursue the only thing worth having. Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, mind and strength. He will be faithful to His promise.
