More Than Bread Devotional for 12/13/11

19He declares his word to Jacob,
his statutes and rules to Israel.
20He has not dealt thus with any other nation;
they do not know his rules.
      Praise the LORD!  – Psalm 147:19-20

Jesus told His disciples and by extension us as well, that to whom much is given, much is required.  The principle exists in the Old Testament as well.  The psalmist reminded the people of Israel that as God’s chosen people, they had been given the knowledge of God’s ways.  Paul talks about this in Romans 2 as well.  As people who are “grafted in” to the community of Israel, we have been given this same privilege to know the ways of God.  Consequently, we are called to live by the same principles, or as Jesus put it, “if you love me, keep my commandments.”  Praise the Lord!
