5 For even when we came into Macedonia, our bodies had no rest, but we were afflicted at every turn fighting without and fear within. 6 But God, who comforts the downcast, comforted us by the coming of Titus, 7 and not only by his coming but also by the comfort with which he was comforted by you, as he told us of your longing, your mourning, your zeal for me, so that I rejoiced still more. – 2 Corinthians 7:5-7
God comforts the downcast. The psalms frequently speak to this aspect of God. Paul experienced this comfort upon hearing good news about those that he loved and cared about from the church in Corinth. But he also found comfort in the promises of God. If you are downcast or feeling despair, I would like to remind you that our God is a God of comfort and peace. If the news you are getting from loved ones, or the circumstances you find yourself in are causing comfort to be in short supply; turn to His Word and find comfort in His promises. He will never leave you or forsake you and you will find comfort in Him.
