More Than Bread Devotional for 10/19/11

11For your name’s sake, O LORD,
pardon my guilt, for it is great.
12Who is the man who fears the LORD?
Him will he instruct in the way that he should choose.   – Psalm 25:11-12

This is a couple of reminders that I need to hear often.  God didn’t forgive me because I am something special or unique or wonderful.  He forgave me because: 1) He is gracious and merciful and 2) I needed forgiveness.  We live in a culture and world that promotes and entitlement mentality.  We are told that we deserve this and are owed that other thing.  That couldn’t be more wrong.  We don’t get what we deserve (and praise the Lord for that); we get grace and mercy and instruction in God’s wisdom and ways when we turn to Him.
