More Than Bread Devotional for 9/8/11

12For I know how many are your transgressions
and how great are your sins—
you who afflict the righteous, who take a bribe,
and turn aside the needy in the gate.
13Therefore he who is prudent will keep silent in such a time,
for it is an evil time.

14 Seek good, and not evil,
that you may live;
and so the LORD, the God of hosts, will be with you,
as you have said.
15 Hate evil, and love good,
and establish justice in the gate;
   it may be that the LORD, the God of hosts,
will be gracious to the remnant of Joseph.  – Amos 5:12-15

There are times when silence is the right course in the face of evil.  Certainly there are times to speak out as well.  The trick comes in having the wisdom to discern which time is which.  The only way to get that is to ask for it.  God promises wisdom to all who ask Him for it.  In fact, He has already given it to you in abundance in His Word.  Seek good in the Word of God and you will find the wisdom to know when to speak out against evil, and when to remain silent and allow God to do what only He can do.
