More Than Bread Devotional for 9/1/11

16The LORD roars from Zion,
and utters his voice from Jerusalem,
and the heavens and the earth quake.
But the LORD is a refuge to his people,
a stronghold to the people of Israel.  – Joel 3:16

Yesterday, I wrote about this very thing.  God is a refuge for those who trust in Him.  He is rightly feared by those who do not heed His voice or follow His paths.  But for those who love Him, He is a source of comfort and strength.  This is the reason John could say with confidence that there is “no fear in love, for perfect love casts out fear.”  As we grow in God’s grace and mercy, we experience Him in a way that drives fear out and leaves us with our refuge and strength in Him alone.

P.S.  Happy 10th birthday to my middle child, Jeremiah.  As we come closer to the 10th anniversary of 9/11, I think back on the past 10 years with my crazy and funny boy with great joy.
