More Than Bread Devotional for 8/10/11

5Those who sow in tears
shall reap with shouts of joy!
6He who goes out weeping,
bearing the seed for sowing,
shall come home with shouts of joy,
bringing his sheaves with him.  – Psalm 126:5-6

Usually the saying is “you reap what you sow.”  While I suppose it is true that we can sometimes cry tears of joy, this isn’t the type of weeping that the psalmist is talking about here.  Instead, this is a reminder that God has a way of turning things around for those in His care.  When we trust in God and place all of our hope in His ways, we find that He is always at work in our lives.  Oftentimes we cannot see the whole picture until some time has passed.  In those times we can cling to promises like this one.  God does not leave us empty and crying tears that come to nothing, the tears of His children become seeds of joy.  What a mighty God we serve.
