More Than Bread Devotional for 8/9/11

1 If it had not been the LORD who was on our side—
let Israel now say—
2if it had not been the LORD who was on our side
when people rose up against us,
3then they would have swallowed us up alive,
when their anger was kindled against us;
4then the flood would have swept us away,
the torrent would have gone over us;
5then over us would have gone
the raging waters.  – Psalm 124:1-5

Floods are funny things.  Not funny in the sense of laughter, but funny in the sense of curious.  I have talked to so many who have been impacted by the flooding here in Minot.  Some of the folks from our mudout teams and others have told me that they have never seen this kind of damage and destruction in a flood zone before.  But even the most powerful forces of nature are subject to the will of our Father.  He can keep us safe in the flood, the fire, the wind and any other calamity that threatens.  May the Lord be your first and only shelter in life’s storms.
