More Than Bread Devotional for 7/26/11

8I have set the LORD always before me;
because he is at my right hand, I shall not be shaken.

9Therefore my heart is glad, and my whole being rejoices;
my flesh also dwells secure.
10For you will not abandon my soul to Sheol,
or let your holy one see corruption.

11You make known to me the path of life;
in your presence there is fullness of joy;
at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.  – Psalm 16:8-11

I spent some time with a dear friend yesterday.  We do not expect that he will remain much longer on this earth, but I have confidence that he will depart from this life to a much better one with our Father.  For as long as I have known him, Donnie has embodied joy.  A simple childlike faith that results in the singing of Jesus Loves Me at some unexpected times and an infectious smile and laughter that causes others to laugh and smile along.

Every day as we walk by faith, we are able to stand in these promises.  We do not need to shake in fear or worry about what lies beyond the grave.  We live in joy because we know that Jesus has conquered the grave.  God proved in His resurrection, that He will raise us who are in Him as well, and with Him there is fullness of joy.  I want you to really picture that, because as joyous as we can get here in this life; it will never be FULL joy like these verses talk about.  That joy will be even better.  What a glorious day that will be.
