And he said to them, “Take care, and be on your guard against all covetousness, for one’s life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions.” – Luke 12:15
I spent several days this past week serving as a chaplain for disaster relief in Minot, ND. We were asked to come in by the Red Cross to minister to people who are living in the shelters after the flooding there. One of the men I was talking with asked me a question that I am still pondering. He said, “Chaplain, how important are possessions to you?” I don’t know if you have ever been asked that question personally. Maybe you have considered it before because of words like these from Scripture. Jesus reminds us that life doesn’t depend on the quality or amount or whatever of the things that we have or collect. Life isn’t about stuff. Sometimes, that is very easy to forget. As you start a new week, I encourage you to remember these words of our Master. Stuff is just stuff.
