1Blessed is the man
who walks not in the counsel of the wicked,
nor stands in the way of sinners,
nor sits in the seat of scoffers;
2but his delight is in the law of the LORD,
and on his law he meditates day and night. 3He is like a tree
planted by streams of water
that yields its fruit in its season,
and its leaf does not wither.
In all that he does, he prospers. – Psalm 1:1-3
We all want to be fruitful in our lives. There are two key ideas that I want to point out in this passage. First, in order to grow and bear fruit you need water. For believers, that water is the Word of God. We are to meditate on God’s Word day and night. If you aren’t delighting in God’s instruction (another way to translate the word rendered law here), then you aren’t going to see much fruit. Two, fruitfulness can be a seasonal thing. Don’t get overly frustrated in barren seasons. As long as you are doing number one, the fruit will come in its time. God is faithful. He will see the work in you through to completion. Let’s be fruity in the right way.
