18 “If the world hates you, know that it has hated me before it hated you. 19 If you were of the world, the world would love you as its own; but because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you. 20Remember the word that I said to you: ‘A servant is not greater than his master.’ If they persecuted me, they will also persecute you. If they kept my word, they will also keep yours. 21But all these things they will do to you on account of my name, because they do not know him who sent me. – John 15:18-21
Yesterday I was reading some of the stories in an updated version of Foxe’s Book of Martyrs, and I was struck by the faith of these people in the face of persecution and death. We should not be surprised when we face trouble or when someone gets upset when we live what we say we believe. Notice that Jesus gives us encouragement though as well. Those who hear His words and live by them are a part of His family. We have brothers and sisters all over the world who love Him and are suffering for their faith even today. Let us hold up our brothers and sisters in prayer before our Father.
