More Than Bread Devotional for 5/24/11

14For here we have no lasting city, but we seek the city that is to come. 15Through him then let us continually offer up a sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of lips that acknowledge his name. 16Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God.   – Hebrews 13:14-16

As I have seen the pictures of another city leveled by the power of a tornado and as I think about the hundreds and thousands of lives that have been turned upside down by these events.  I call to mind the truth of Scripture.  Nothing we see on this earth is permanent.  Here we have no lasting city.  We look beyond to a city that is permanent, “the city that has foundations, whose designer and builder is God,” as the writer of Hebrews describes it in chapter 11.  Please pray for those whose city has been leveled by disaster and take opportunity to share the story about this better city with someone today.
