More Than Bread Devotional for 3/30/11

1 My son, keep my words
and treasure up my commandments with you;
2 keep my commandments and live;
keep my teaching as the apple of your eye;
3 bind them on your fingers;
write them on the tablet of your heart.   – Proverbs 7:1-3

God’s Word is the most precious treasure we can have.  We are repeatedly encouraged throughout Scripture to treasure it in our heart and write it on our heart.  Here the writer tells us to keep it as the apple of our eye.  I think you might be getting the picture that Scripture is key to our life.  Don’t just turn to God’s Word when you find yourself in trouble or despair or hurt.  Store it up during the good times so that when trials come, you don’t have to go hunting for the treasure you need.
