25With the merciful you show yourself merciful;
with the blameless man you show yourself blameless; – Psalm 18:25
This quote might seem familiar somehow to you. If it does, it is with good reason. Our Master quoted this in His “sermon on the mount,” in Matthew 5, and I wanted to highlight it this morning from its root. Jesus said, “blessed are the merciful for they shall obtain mercy (v. 7).” Elsewhere, He told the parable of the man whose great debt had been forgiven, who then went and demanded a much smaller amount that another person owed to him. That story was used to drive the point home that God’s forgiveness is much greater and broader than any forgiveness we can offer as the offenses we commit against Him are much greater than any we bear from another person. Let me encourage you today and every day to let mercy lead in how you deal with others. For the merciful will obtain mercy from the One we really need it from above all others.
