11For he will command his angels concerning you
to guard you in all your ways.
12On their hands they will bear you up,
lest you strike your foot against a stone. – Psalm 91:11-12
I had these verses come to mind last Friday after a rather harrowing experience. We were driving down the road when our vehicle hit a patch of ice and I lost control. It is such a helpless feeling and not one I care to repeat ever again if I get a say so. But as we slid into the median on the interstate and flipped to our side, it really felt as though we were gently set down against the snow.
I think most people recognize these verses as the ones that Satan misquoted when he was tempting Jesus in the desert, and I have no desire to misuse them here. I am not trying to imply that God will always protect us from everything that could happen, because that isn’t a proper view based on Scripture. Jesus told His disciples that they would have trouble in this world (John 16:33) and I know that we all find that to be true. But in those times when God does in fact protect us or deliver us, we need to give Him the glory for it.
