More Than Bread 2/3/11

Turn my eyes from looking at worthless things;
and give me life in your ways. – Psalm 119:37

This is one of those verses that sticks in my memory.  I have a song that I like to listen to sometimes that includes these lines as well.  It is a good reminder for us in daily life to prioritize what is important and has value over what is meaningless and empty.  The Hebrew word here translated as “worthless” can also mean empty.  A good analogy for this perhaps would be like “empty calories” in junk food.  Empty calories in food may give a quick burst of energy, but they do not last long term.  There are lots of things in life that may give us a “quick burn” spiritually or emotionally, but they quickly fade away.   The things of God and the instructions from His Word are not like that however.  They are given to us for life, even eternal life.  Turn you eyes to that which will last, the Word of God.
