1 Blessed is the man
who walks not in the counsel of the wicked,
nor stands in the way of sinners,
nor sits in the seat of scoffers;
2 but his delight is in the law of the LORD,
and on his law he meditates day and night.
3 He is like a tree
planted by streams of water
that yields its fruit in its season,
and its leaf does not wither.
In all that he does, he prospers.
There are some amazing promises in Scripture. Here David tells us that those who are nourished by the Word of God are like trees that are planted by streams of water. I don’t know if you notice this much, but trees grow much more plentifully and much healthier near streams and rivers. Here in North Dakota, there are some areas where the only place you can find a tree is near a stream. But even with this constant source of supply from the stream, I want you to notice that these trees only bring forth their fruit in season. Sometimes we can get frustrated by a lack of fruitfulness in our life. There are times that we can feel like our life is unproductive. But God is faithful to His promises and we will bear fruit in our season. Paul puts it like this, “let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.” (Galatians 6:9)
