More Than Bread Devotional for 10/2/08

Matthew 22:36-40
36 “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?” 37 Jesus replied: ” ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”

I don’t know about you, but I find it easier to remember a couple of things instead a whole bunch.  Jesus helps us out in a way, by simplifying the commandments of God into two statements that are easy to remember(even if they aren’t always easy to do)!  The Jewish people say that there are over 600 commandments of God in the Old Testament alone.  Jesus said that to keep them all we simply need to focus on loving God first with all that we have and to love others like we love ourselves.  If we do that right, the rest of the commands will fall in line.
