19 For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him, 20 and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross.
The word “shalom” in Hebrew is often translated simply as peace, but it embodies so much more. It is the idea not only of peace, but that everything is right or the way it is supposed to be. I think it is that concept that Paul had in mind here in Colossians. He is telling us that Christ made everything right between us and God through His blood. Christ has given us shalom with God. He has made everything peaceful and the way it should be, the way God always wanted it to be.
